Scholarship Application Process at North Star Foundation

Several hands stacked together symbolizing teamwork and unity.

Step 1: Fill out contact form with demographic information

Completing Step 1 of the scholarship application steps for the North Star Foundation scholarships involves filling out the contact form with your demographic information. This crucial initial task sets the foundation for your application.

In this step, you need to provide accurate details such as your name, address, email, and phone number, along with information about your educational background and your status as a teen parent.

Ensuring that this information is precise and up to date is essential, as it allows the scholarship committee to reach you with important updates and decisions regarding your application for teen parent scholarships.

Step 2: Look at available scholarships on website

Completing Step 2 in the scholarship application steps, you need to thoroughly review the "Available Scholarships" page. This step involves exploring various opportunities, including North Star Foundation scholarships, to identify those that best align with your academic goals, field of study, and personal background.

Carefully read the descriptions, eligibility criteria, and application requirements for each scholarship, including teen parent scholarships, to determine which ones you qualify for and are most interested in. By understanding the specifics of each scholarship, you can tailor your application to highlight how your achievements and aspirations meet the criteria, thereby increasing your chances of receiving an award.

Step 3: Write a 500-word essay

As part of our scholarship application steps to identify the best candidate for the North Star Foundation scholarships, we ask that you submit a 500-word essay that meets the following requirements:

1. Share your personal history of becoming a teen parent, including your struggles and successes, as well as your perspective on why higher education is important to you.

2. Indicate which scholarship you are most interested in, and explain why you want to receive that scholarship.

Step 4: Pay application fee

The application fee for the North Star Foundation scholarships is $50. If you are not selected for the scholarship you applied for, your $50 will be held for future scholarships to apply to within a one-year period. You can follow the scholarship application steps to reapply after one year; however, you will need to pay the application fee again and submit a personal essay again, including for the teen parent scholarships.

Step 5: Meet with staff and accepting the scholarship

After you have submitted your personal information, a 500-word essay, and paid the $50 application fee, you will need to meet with the North Star Foundation staff via Zoom or Google Meet to discuss your scholarship application steps and your need for financial assistance through the North Star Foundation scholarships.

Once you are selected to receive a scholarship and accept it, the North Star Foundation requires you to report your progress and grades on a term-by-term basis. Additionally, you will have a 1-hour Zoom or Google Meet meeting each semester. This process helps us motivate our recipients, including those applying for teen parent scholarships, to perform at their best and ensures that the scholarships are utilized appropriately. We reserve the right to revoke the scholarship if the student is not attending, failing courses, or misusing the scholarship as outlined in the requirements from their trade school, college, or university.
