Completing Step 1 of the scholarship application process involves filling out the contact form with your demographic information, a crucial initial task that sets the foundation for your application.
This step requires you to provide accurate details such as your name, address, email, and phone number, as well as information about your educational background and being a teen parent.
Ensuring that this information is precise and up to date is essential, as it allows the scholarship committee to reach you with important updates and decisions regarding your application.
Completing Step 2 in the process you need to thoroughly review the "Available Scholarships" page. This step involves exploring the various scholarship opportunities to identify those that best align with your academic goals, field of study, and personal background.
Carefully read the descriptions, eligibility criteria, and application requirements for each scholarship to determine which ones you qualify for and are most interested in. By understanding the specifics of each scholarship, you can tailor your application to highlight how your achievements and aspirations meet the criteria, thereby increasing your chances of receiving an award.
As part of our process to determine the best candidate for the scholarship, we ask that you submit a 500-word essay with the following requirements:
1. Provide your personal history of becoming a teen parent, struggles, successes, and why higher education is important to you.
2. Provide which scholarship you are the most interested in and why you want to receive that scholarship.
Our application fee is $50 to apply for a scholarship. If you are not selected for the scholarship you are interested in, your $50 will be held for future scholarships to apply to within a one-year period. You can reapply after the one year, but you will be required to pay the application fee again and submit a personal essay again.
After you have submitted your personal information, 500-word essay, and paid the $50 application fee, you will be required to meet with the North Star Foundation staff via Zoom or Google Meet to discuss your application and why you are needing a scholarship.
Once you have been selected to receive a scholarship and accept the scholarship, the North Star Foundation requires you to report on a term-by-term basis your progress, grades, and do a 1 hr. Zoom/Google Meet meeting per semester. This helps us with motivating our recipients to do their best and to make sure the scholarships are being used appropriately. We reserve the right to revoke the scholarship if the student is not attending, failing courses, or is misusing the scholarship as outlined in the scholarship requirements from the trade school, college, or university.
